Critical Analysis of Gaza News from ÇAKÜ Academician

In the research, Gaza War news published on YouTube by BBC, The Telegraph and Daily Mail World were examined comparatively. Analyzes carried out through video titles, screenshots and news narratives revealed that there are striking similarities in the news discourses on Gaza between British news organizations, which are considered to have different editorial lines.

According to the findings of the study, while news content is largely shaped around security-centered frameworks, the genocide in Gaza and the mass destruction suffered by Palestinian civilians are often presented without the perpetrator, responsibility and legal context. In the research, this situation is defined as "genocide blindness" (genocide-blindness) is evaluated within the framework of the concept.

The article reveals that although the large-scale civilian destruction in Gaza was included in the news, concepts such as "genocide", "collective punishment" and "forced displacement", which make it possible to evaluate the events from the perspective of international law and human rights, were largely excluded from the news discourse. The study shows that news discourses systematically legitimize the genocide in Gaza, make responsibility invisible, and normalize the mass destruction of Palestinian civilians as an ordinary practice of war.

The research also reveals that news organizations with different editorial orientations use common discursive frames in their coverage of Gaza, and that these frames serve to normalize the genocide.
