Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Karataş was born in 1977 in the Karatay district of Konya. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Trabzon. He graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2001. He started his career as a general practitioner in Hayrat district of Trabzon in 2002. In 2007, he worked as a "research fellow" in the Department of Pulmonology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the United States.

Karataş, who specialized in Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis in 2009, worked as Deputy Chief Physician at Trabzon Kanuni Training and Research Hospital between 2012 and 2014. In 2014, he started working as a Doctor Lecturer at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medical Sciences, Department of Chest Diseases. He served as a Specialist Doctor at the Interventional Pulmonology Clinic of Ankara Atatürk Chest Diseases and Thoracic Surgery Training and Research Hospital between 2016-2018, as Chief Physician at Ankara Occupational and Environmental Diseases Hospital between 2018-2021, and as Founding Chief Physician/Chief Physician at Ankara Mamak State Hospital between 2021-2023. He received the title of associate professor in the field of Pulmonary Diseases in 2019.

Karataş, who served as Chief Physician at Somali Türkiye Mogadishu Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Training and Research Hospital between 2023-2024, initiated the first open heart surgeries in Somali history during this period. He worked on the establishment of a 120-bed maternity and children's hospital in the Hodan region of Mogadishu. In 2024, Karataş served as a faculty member at the University of Health Sciences, Uzbekistan Bukhara Ibn-i Sina Faculty of Medicine. After working at the Department of Chest Diseases, University of Health Sciences, Ankara Atatürk Sanatorium SUAM, in 2025, Karataş became Prof. received the title.

Karataş, who also held various positions in non-governmental organizations, served as the President of the Ankara Branch of the Turkish Green Crescent Society and the Ankara Regional Coordinator between 2017 and 2023. He has worked as a volunteer in many national and international aid organizations.

Karataş, who speaks English fluently, has articles in international and national refereed journals in his field; presentations at international and national scientific meetings; There are technical notes, case reports and research notes. He is married and has three children.

Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Karataş was appointed as the Rector of Çankırı Karatekin University on May 16, 2025, with the approval of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
